Technology has changed the world in many ways over the last 20 years. We have seen technologies come and go, and the demand for digital skills evolve and change. ICDL training, from the ECDL Foundation in Europe, has developed and adapted over the last 20 years to help people obtain the digital skills they require to succeed today.
From a small start to training 15 million people
ECDL grew from a small project in Europe, founded with support from the European Union’s ESPRIT research programme, to ICDL – an internationally recognised standard in digital skills. ECDL/ICDL is used in over 100 countries around the world, and is available in over 40 languages. 15 million people have benefited from ICDL in the past 20 years.
In NZ since 2003
In New Zealand, ICDL training and qualifications became available in 2003 through the New Zealand Computer Society (now ITP (IT Professionals New Zealand). In 2012 they passed the ICDL baton to the 20/20 Trust.
ICDL and KiwiSkills
The 20/20 Trust offers moderately priced ICDL online training and certification to businesses, individuals and educators. ICDL is now also available through 20/20’s free KiwiSkills jobseeker training programme, training 7,500 jobseekers over 3 years.
