More than 100 students from CPIT in Christchurch grabbed the chance to gain their ICDL Certificate at a recent 3-day event offered by the 2020 Trust. Funded through the popular KiwiSkills programme, the pop-up test centre attracted students keen to have the certification to help them get jobs.
“The certificate shows that you have essential computer skills. It verifies you know how to maintain computer security, use word processing programmes and use spreadsheets,” says the Student Events Coordinator Fiorella Fioretto who helped organise the event.
Prizes to reward students efforts were offered as part of the event. Deepak Sharma passed a total of seven ICDL Certificate tests and had the highest aggregate score (by 1 point!) which won him a tablet.
Lauren Bunt was the first student to pass four ICDL Certificate tests winning her a Bosé speaker (see photo). “We were really thrilled with the turnout over the three days, with some students genuinely surprised at how little they knew about Word or Spreadsheets. Until you test your skills against a benchmark it’s a bit of an unknown.” says ICDL Marketing Executive Sarah Lee.
The event was so popular with students that 2020 Trust were invited back to allow more students to sit their ICDL Certificate tests. To read more about the event see the CPIT news article here.
